History of Kingsway English Centre, Worcester
and Kingsway Summer School @ RGS Worcester
To help you remember where and when you were at Kingsway English Centre (our adult school) and Kingsway Summer School (our junior school) we list here the different buildings we were in, so this may jog some memories.
3 St. Mary’s Street, Worcester
March 1990 – December 1994
Saint Mary’s Street was our first school building, having started the school from our home 10km outside the city in 1989.
If you came to us during this period you would probably have been in VERY small classes or even 1:1 as we didn’t have many students. So you were part of our early history and our growth to being a ‘proper’ school! Thank you for being with us.
Northwall House, 11 The Butts
January 1995 – August 2002
The building was located in the centre of the city next to the bus station and CrownGate Shopping Centre. Close by was Barrel’s Wine Bar and Tramps Nightclub.
There were 7 classrooms and an outside conservatory where all the smokers used to gather at break times. There was also a small courtyard garden, with the main entrance out on to the pedestrian area at the back of the photo.
40 Foregate Street, Worcester
September 2002 – March 2020
No.40 was located in the main street through Worcester, not far from the train station. We quadrupled our size over night and gave us 14 classrooms.
This was the final home of Kingsway English Centre. When the COVID pandemic hit us in February / March 2020 all of our students at the time got on flights home and we reluctantly had to close the school.
Did you attend Kingsway Summer School?
July 2013 – July 2019
Kingsway Summer School ran for 4 weeks in the summer for 7 years from 2013 to 2019 inclusve.
The early years were based at the Royal Grammar School campus, and the later years were at RGS Springfield (pictured above).
In 2019 we ran our first English Plus Football summer camp with West Bromwich Albion.
