FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q) Which type of accommodation do most Kingsway students choose?
A) Regular host family

Q) There are certain foods that I really don’t like. Should I tell the host family?
A) Yes, of course. You can do this on your application form or once you are in the family. But if you have serious allergies or only eat a very restricted diet then we really need to know in advance.

Q) Will the host family do my washing?
A) Our families are not obliged to do your washing but all of them are either happy to do it for you or will let you use their washing machine. However, you will probably have to do your own ironing!

Q) Can I smoke in the home?
A) If you asked to stay with a smoking family then yes, but it’s always best to ask before you light up. Most of our families are non-smokers so please be considerate.
 

 

Q) Will I be given a key to the house?
A) Yes, you can come and go as you wish as long as you are quiet and considerate in the middle of the night!

Q) Which day should I arrive at & depart from the host family?
A) Ideally you should arrive on the Sunday before your course begins and leave on the Friday evening or Saturday morning. But don’t worry if your flights don’t work out as our host families are flexible.

Q) What happens if I’m really unhappy with my host family?
A) First you should tell our Student Services manager, Anne. She will listen to your reasons for being unhappy and suggest a course of action. If she thinks that you are unhappy because of a communication problem then she will probably make a phone call to the family to sort it out. If the problem is more complicated ie a clash of personalities then it may be best to move you.

Q) Can I change families to be closer to a colleague or to Kingsway?
A) In general, this is not a good reason for moving so if you are determined to change, you will have to give one whole week’s notice or pay 1 week's accommodation instead.
